IEEE Sri Lanka Section — Advancing Technology for Humanity

Welcome to the official website of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section, the country's premier professional body for engineering and technology. As part of IEEE — the world's largest technical professional organisation with over 450,000 members globally — the IEEE Sri Lanka Section connects engineers, researchers, students, and technology professionals across Sri Lanka with a vibrant international network dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

Formed on 14 November 2003, the IEEE Sri Lanka Section has grown into a dynamic community spanning multiple technical chapters, student branches at universities across the island, the Young Professionals affinity group, Women in Engineering (WIE), SIGHT, and local groups. Together these communities organise hundreds of events each year — including technical workshops, seminars, conferences, hackathons, and networking sessions — that empower members at every stage of their careers.

Our mission is to foster technological innovation and excellence in Sri Lanka. We achieve this by providing members with access to world-class IEEE publications, digital library resources, professional development tools, certification pathways, and exclusive networking opportunities. Whether you are a student at a local university, a young professional launching your career, or a senior engineer leading industry transformation, the IEEE Sri Lanka Section has a community for you.

Why Join IEEE Sri Lanka Section?

IEEE membership opens doors to a global community of technology professionals. Members can search IEEE Xplore, access select member content and IEEE Press eBook Classics, and use member-priced options for broader publication access. The IEEE Sri Lanka Section amplifies these global benefits with local programming tailored to the Sri Lankan engineering ecosystem — from school outreach under SIGHT to high-impact technical conferences co-sponsored with leading universities.

Our student branches at universities across Colombo, Kandy, Galle, and beyond give undergraduate and postgraduate students hands-on experience in organising professional events, collaborating on projects, and building networks that last a lifetime. Technical chapters in fields such as Power & Energy, Computer Society, Communications, and Robotics & Automation offer deep-dive communities for practising engineers and researchers.

Connect with us on social media, attend our events, and become part of a century-long tradition of engineering excellence. The IEEE Sri Lanka Section — advancing technology for humanity, right here in Sri Lanka.
