Dracarys’19, IEEE awareness for the year 2019 organized by IEEE student branch University of Moratuwa was held on 6th of April 2019 from 6.30pm to 8.00pm at new auditorium, faculty of Information Technology with the participation of 15 IEEE members and 70 non-IEEE members. Mr. Peshan Sampath, assistant secretary of IEEE Sri Lanka Section was the chief guest of this glamorous event. The event was organized with the intention of recruiting new members to the IEEE Student branch University of Moratuwa and making newbies aware.
The event was named using a name from popular TV series Game of Thrones, which was a famous topic among university students those days. Dracarys’19 was consisted of three sessions to interact participants with the branch members and to inspire them to work with IEEE to gain new experiences and opportunities.
The first session was “Introduction to IEEE” by Mr. Peshan Sampath. He gave an overall introduction about IEEE from A to Z, how to volunteer with IEEE, advantages of getting IEEE membership, opportunities in IEEE and how to be a giant in IEEE. The next session was a Kahoot Quiz by Mr.Hasinthaka Hewapathirana. This was done to engage the whole audience and to mitigate sessions being boring. Everyone in the event was actively participated and top scorers won valuable gifts. Both IEEE and Game of Thrones questions were included to keep the newbies excited. Final session was “My IEEE Life” by Miss. Madara Polgampola. Her IEEE journey was well presented persuading the newbies interests towards IEEE. She mentioned all the fun activities and events she engaged in IEEE, the way she developed her soft skills, leadership skills, and network with people.
As a conclusion it must be said that Dracarys’19 was a hugely successful event which was beneficial to student branch and student who are willing to start the journey through IEEE. We hope to continue the event with more attractive theme in the next year.
