Securing Tomorrow’s Networks | OpenRAN & DLA by IEEE ComSoc SL Chapter

The IEEE Communications Society Sri Lanka Chapter hosted an inspiring virtual session on 3 July, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, focusing on security issues in Open Radio Access Networks (OpenRAN) and emerging trends in Distributed Ledger Applications (DLA). The event drew strong interest from the local tech community, underscoring the importance of these topics in advancing safer and more reliable communication systems.

OpenRAN is a new and flexible approach to building mobile networks. While it brings exciting opportunities, it also introduces new security challenges. The session, led by experts including Dr. Pasika Ranaweera from University College Dublin, explored real-world vulnerabilities in OpenRAN systems and demonstrated how blockchain-based Distributed Ledger Applications (DLA) can strengthen telecom security.

Participants gained practical insights into securing future networks through clear examples and open discussions. The event not only presented the latest research but also inspired fresh ideas on safeguarding Sri Lanka’s next-generation communication systems.
