Student Branch Affinity Groups

The IEEE Student Branch at NSBM Green University has petitioned and formed the NSBM SB SIGHT Affinity Group, the first SIGHT affinity group tied to any student branch in Sri Lanka. The petition was submitted on 10 September 2025.

The NSBM SB SIGHT group aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). It targets underserved communities across Sri Lanka’s 25 districts, including rural students, visually impaired children, and digitally vulnerable populations. Partnerships are being built with rural schools and blind institutions.

The petition includes four scalable projects focused on assistive technology demonstrations for visually impaired children, hands-on STEM workshops in rural schools, cybercrime awareness sessions, and leadership development programs.
