IEEE offers several membership grades based on your educational background and professional experience. Fees vary significantly by your Region (country of residence).

Membership Grades:

  • Student Member: For undergraduate or graduate students taking at least 50% of a normal full-time course of study.
  • Graduate Student Member: For those who are 50% full-time graduate students.
  • Member: For professional engineers, scientists, and technologists.
  • Society Affiliate: For those who want to join a specific technical society (e.g., Computer Society, Power & Energy Society) without full IEEE membership.
  • Higher Grades: Senior Member (requires application and references), Fellow (conferred by Board of Directors), and Life Member (based on age + years of membership).

Fees (Estimates):

  • Professionals: typically range from $176 – $236 USD annually, depending on your region (e.g., USA vs. Developing Nations).
  • Students: typically range from $14 – $27 USD annually.
  • e-Membership: A reduced-cost option (approx. $88 USD) offered in developing nations where paper publications are eliminated in favor of digital access.
  • Note: New members joining between 1 March and 15 August usually pay half-year dues.
