Welcome to the latest edition of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Monthly News Bulletin! We are excited to bring you the latest updates, achievements, and noteworthy events happenings in our vibrant community. Let us come together to celebrate the achievements of our members, foster collaboration, and the latest news during the month of May.

IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student Activities Committee (SLSAC) in collaboration with the student branches of Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and Ruhuna University of Sri Lanka was organized Spread the Word 2023. This program was held on 27th May at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
This event aims to ensure membership retention and development of student members and graduate student members of inactive student branches within the IEEE Sri Lanka Section. The event focused on creating awareness of member benefits and providing opportunities for students to fine-tune their leadership skills.
Membership Development, Professional Development, and Leadership Development segments are covered in this program. The primary goal of this event is to develop the organizational skills of participants, which will benefit their future careers and student branches.

"Together Towards a Sustainable Future" | Environmental Resilience Workshop
|
|
|
|
In collaboration with Thuru and Zero Trash organizations, IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka has organized an Environmental Resilience Workshop for volunteers, which focuses on building the capacity of IEEE members to understand and address environmental challenges, such as waste management, home gardening, and climate change. In addition to these educational sessions, the workshop also serves as a tool for facilitating planning, designing, and implementing community-based climate adaptation and mitigation projects similar to Thuru and ZeroTrash.
The workshop was held at the ZeroTrash Collection Centre in Boralesgamuwa on 26th May from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. This event was organized primarily by the YPSL ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Subcommittee. This subcommittee is dedicated to igniting a passion for the environment and applying knowledge to drive environmental sustainability.

IEEE නැණස : A Program to Make STEM Education Accessible!
|
|
|
The SLSAC and IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT recently collaborated on a project called IEEE නැණස, which aimed to empower STEM education among Sri Lankan school students. On 3rd of May 2023, the project embarked on its second step at Hapugala Maha Vidyalaya, commencing at 8:00 am. The project involved partnerships with IEEE student branches from the University of Ruhuna, NSBM, and NIBM.
Continuing its progress, the third step of IEEE නැණස took place on 4th of May 2023, in collaboration with IEEE student branches from Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Open University of Sri Lanka, and Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT). These partnerships strengthened the reach of the project, allowing more students from different educational institutions to participate and benefit from the program's activities.

15th National Cyber Security Conference | Partnership with IEEE Sri Lanka Section and Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT)
|
The 15th National Cyber Security Conference organized by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Response Team (Sri Lanka CERT) was conducted on 23rd of May at the Waters Edge Hotel.
The Conference was organized around the theme of Protecting Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) of the country. This premier event brought together experts in the cybersecurity domain and provides an exceptional opportunity for the private and public sectors to engage and showcase their interest in the field of Cybersecurity. Sri Lanka CERT and IEEE Sri Lanka Section entered into a partnership in accordance with IEEE Guidelines for National Society Agreements, to collaborate with the event and support the advancement of cyber security in Sri Lanka. IEEE members who are interested in Cyber Security had the opportunity to participate in this conference with a special 20% discount.

Master Trainer Program for Provincial Career Guidance Officers | Partnership with IEEE Sri Lanka Section SLInspire and ICTA
|
We are thrilled to announce the successful collaboration between IEEE Sri Lanka Section and SLInspire in the Master Trainer Program for Provincial Career Guidance Officers organized by ICTA. This program, held on the 18th and 19th of May, aimed to equip career guidance officers with essential skills and knowledge. IEEE Sri Lanka Section and SLInspire generously provided their support through sponsorship and valuable session.
The collaboration between ICTA, IEEE Sri Lanka Section, and SLInspire exemplifies the collective effort in fostering career development and guidance across the province. By joining forces, these organizations aim to make a positive impact on the future workforce and guide students toward successful future.

Unlock Your Potential as an IEEE Volunteer!

The IEEE Sri Lanka Section, in collaboration with IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, presents IEEE Sri Lanka Section Volunteer Training Program 2023 will be held on 4th June at Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).
The program aims to provide training to National Level and Student Branch Level volunteers that will be beneficial for their volunteer roles as well as professional careers. The program will cover topics such as student branch operations, necessary reporting, leadership skills, and the successful execution of student branch programs. The program also aims to increase the student membership numbers in IEEE Sri Lanka Section.

ICRA Satellite Conference Center at the University of Moratuwa

IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Sri Lanka Chapter has collaborated with IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA), to host an ICRA Satellite Conference Center at the University of Moratuwa.
The largest and most prestigious event of the year in the Robotics and Automation calendar 2023, IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) will bring together the world's top academics, researchers, and industry representatives.
ICRA conference content will be live-streamed at the University of Moratuwa. This will be held from 29th May to 2nd June 2023 from 1.00 pm onwards at the University of Moratuwa. Please use the link below to register. Only registrants will be allowed access to the university premises.
