July 9, 2025 · 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The first session of the highly anticipated workshop series on “Career Readiness for the IT Industry” was successfully launched on 9th July 2025. The inaugural session, titled "What the Industry Looks for in Fresh Graduates", attracted overwhelming participation, with the Zoom platform reaching its full capacity of 300 attendees. In addition, the session was live-streamed via YouTube and drew over 100 more participants, resulting in a total of more than 400 students from universities across Sri Lanka taking part in this insightful event. This session was jointly organized by the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter and SLAAS Section E3 (Computer Science) with IFS. The session was conducted by Ms. Shashiprabha Dangalla, Senior Software Engineer, R&D at IFS, and moderated by Ms. D.M.Y Siriwardena from The Open University of Sri Lanka. From IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter, this event was coordinated and organized by Ms. Suresha Perera. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world industry expectations. It equips students with essential skills to transition confidently into the fast-paced IT job market. While many graduates demonstrate strong technical skills, they often lack soft skills, job readiness strategies, and career planning. This series addresses those gaps by offering practical, industry-relevant insights from professionals and mentors. The target audience includes undergraduates and recent graduates in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, and related fields across Sri Lankan universities.
