CYBERHAT 1.0 - Getting Started with Cybersecurity and Ethical Hacking Online Workshop

The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus organized this online workshop for those who are interested in cybersecurity & searching for a cybersecurity career path. Participants were able to learn the basics of ethical hacking which is a very interesting path in this field. Furthermore, we awarded a valuable certificate for the participants after proving their knowledge by completing the skill quiz after the workshop. The session was conducted by Mr. Jude Myuran. K, one of the most experienced personalities in the Cyber Security Industry. Why did we decide to organize CYBERHAT 1.0 Cybercrime is a global problem that’s been dominating the news cycle. It poses a threat to individual security and an even bigger threat to large international companies, banks, and governments. Today’s organized cyber-crimes far out shadow lone hackers of the past now large organized crime rings function like start-ups and often employ highly-trained developers who are constantly innovating online attacks. With so much data to exploit out there, Cybersecurity has become essential. This project made an opportunity to get to know “What is Cyber Security and How is it beneficial to day-to-day life?” Our Project Objectives What is cybersecurity? How does it work in this generation? What are the problems we have to face the cause of cybercrime? So, we need to know how to defend ourselves. Through this workshop, we can get to know about cybersecurity basics and cybercrimes. This Workshop will help to develop awareness about cybersecurity in the community. This workshop is based on practical (penetration testing, bug bounty, etc..) therefore it is going to make interest among audiences. And Also, to develop Cyber Security skills of the individuals who have already an interest in this field. This workshop will be a milestone for Cybersecurity Undergraduates as they will master the essential cybersecurity skills with practical knowledge. This generation is turning into a golden era of information technology. So, this Workshop will be a great support to the participants who are willing to earn money using online-platforms by mastering cybersecurity skills. Providing a cybersecurity career start guidance to School and undergraduate students affected by the global covid-19 pandemic. The targeted audience for those, Individuals who are interested in cybersecurity including the, Engineering, Technology, and Computing undergraduate students around Sri Lanka. Freelancing and self-learning individuals. Fresh Intern undergraduate students in the Information Technology Industry. Information Technology motivated school students in Sri Lanka. We were able to attract more than 650 participants using an interactive Registration Portal - Home | CYBERHAT 1.0 (wixsite.com) Workshop Program We were able to deliver our interactive video session through the Zoom Platform on the 3rd of January. We started the session at 3.00 p.m. and continued for three hours. Also, we conducted our registrations, attendance marking, quiz conducting, Feedback collecting using Google Cloud Services. i) Delivering the Main Content What is RED Teaming, Penetration Testing, and Ethical Hacking? Having the right Mindset, Tools, and Targets. How to pursue a successful career in Cyber Security? Why? What is Bug Bounty? How to earn from it. Nothing is safe!!!! Let me show you why We have OTP to protect us!!!! You think so? Let me prove you wrong. I have Defender and Antivirus!!!! Great, I still can exploit you. I love clicking links and Zooming pictures!!!! Old but Gold. Can I do Something to WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram? ii) Question and Answer Session We made a big opportunity for the participants who had a curiosity about Cybersecurity by giving a Question-and-Answer session. Every participant was allowed to present their problems by filling google form. At the end of the session, the guest speaker answered all the subject-related questions. iii) Skill Quiz and Certificate of Appreciation The most important thing of the workshop was given a valuable certificate after participating in the quiz via Google Forms. We continuously marked the attendance of participants by giving them to fill a google form. After the session, we E-Mailed the quiz for every participant who submitted the attendance google form. There were 10 questions in the quiz and they had to submit them before 11.59 pm that day. We decided to offer a valuable certificate to those who got marks greater than 75%for the quiz. So, we issued certificates for 550 participants using Google API within one week. And also, we guided them to showcase their certificates on their LinkedIn profiles. Further, we provided a Feedback form to give their Valuable feedback on our effort.
