The Darrel Chong Student Activity Award

The purpose of this award is to change the mindset of student groups from being number-driven to becoming value-driven and to acknowledge exemplary student activities around the world. The goal is to improve the quality of activities and to foster knowledge sharing among students. Ultimately, the initiative is targeted at improving student-membership growth. This will encourage and motivate students to continue to innovate and implement meaningful ideas.

IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa managed to win the Silver of 2014 Darrel Chong Award for the project Code Expertz 1.0, which was a six hour online school programming competition exclusively organised for the school children of Sri Lanka. The competition was organised to Motivate students to be technologically sound in solving real world problems, especially using computer programming.
