The very first Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup was held at Virtusa Colombo on 01st of June 2016, focusing on the topic of cutting edge Robotics and IoT technologies. The session included presentations on Robotics Research and Development in Sri Lanka by Professor Rohan Munasinghe (Head of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Moratuwa and Chair – IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Sri Lanka Section Chapter), and the Internet of Things (IoT) by Engineer Nalin Karunasinghe (Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Moratuwa)​.

A panel discussion also took place with the participation of Anuradha Weeraman (Associate Director, Mobile Solutions & Digital Practice at Virtusa)​, Heshan Perera (Technical Project Manager at Zone24x7), Professor Rohan Munasinghe, and Engineer Nalin Karunasinghe. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Sanath Jayawardana (Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Moratuwa and Chair [Elect] – IEEE Sri Lanka Section​).

The Sri Lanka Robotics Meetup is organized by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Sri Lanka Section Chapter, in partnership with the IEEE Sri Lanka Section. It provides aid in promoting close cooperation and exchange of technical information among its participants, and to this end holds meetings for the presentation of research and their discussion provides for the needs of its members and affiliates.
